WORLD OF ROCK 2002

Artist Of The Month

JUNE 2004 - KANE

Infectious, meaningful, melodic rock music sums up the band set to reign for June's Artist of the Month, and we can't tell you how excited we are to crown them. We first caught the power of the band on March 15th when they supported Maroon 5 at the Mean Fiddler in London, and from the very first opening bars, we were totally hooked and knew instantly that they'd be a future World of Rock AoM. Since that time we've been busy catching up on the history of the band and secretly planning this very feature with the help of their record label & fans from around the world. The wait is over. With the band's first UK album release "What If" out on June 21st, we've good reason to proudly announce Kane as our new Artist of the Month.

We were lucky enough to see Kane supporting Maroon 5 twice in London at the Mean Fiddler and The Astoria back in March / April and still can't get over the impact they had on us in those two 30-45 minute sessions!! The energy & power just blew us away and our only regret is that we hadn't "discovered" them sooner. Formed in 1998 and having already supported WoR faves Bon Jovi and The Calling, Kane are extremely successful in their native Holland with an impressive list of accolades behind them including Gold and Platinum album awards, THREE Edisons (Holland’s most important music award), SIX TMF awards and TWO consecutive MTV awards! We're thrilled that Holland's best kept secret will now be launching an assault on the UK market with their album "What If" being released on June 14th and their first UK single release, the AMAZING "Rain Down On Me" released on July 26th.

BMG has created an Official UK Kane mailing list to keep everyone up to date with all the latest UK Kane news so make sure you join up here. We also understand that there are plans underway for further UK promotion - watch this space!

Although "What If" is the band's first official UK album release, it's by no means their first in Holland! "As Long As You Want This" was the band's debut album back in 1999 and "So Glad You Made It", the follow up in 2001/2002. Kane have just released a CD/DVD collection in their homeland entitled "February" which is a live offering (acoustic we believe) of some of Kane's best work. Other DVD's also released in Holland include "With Or Without You" - a selection of U2 songs performed by Kane and "Live in Rotterdam" a chance to see Kane live at the Ahoy Arena. We've actually got the latter and agree it's one of the best concert DVD's we own - it really captures the atmosphere perfectly!

Regular World of Rock visitors will already be aware of how highly we recommend this band, but for those of you who we're introducing Kane to for the first time, or for those of you who are unsure whether or not to purchase the album and part company with your hard earned cash, then check out Nic's "What If" album review Here.

Kane will hopefully be returning to UK shores for live dates soon (we will of course keep you posted!) but in the meantime, take a look at Lou's Mean Fiddler & The Astoria gig reviews to see why Kane made such an impression on us - just click Here. Browse through our Giggin' It Kane concert pix from the Mean Fiddler here and Gina's The Astoria pix here.

One thing that is immediately apparent with Kane is the mutual respect between the band and their fans. We contacted several Kane fans and everyone was itching to help us in putting this feature together. Music is a powerful force in many people's lives and here, Nadia, webmistress of Kane France tells her inspirational story on how and why she fell for Kane and created France's first Kane fansite

The love and pride that the Dutch people have for Kane is something else that is very obvious. Here Astrid, webmistress of Kane Abroad gives us her perspective on what the band means to Holland.

Of course the British are fast catching on to a good thing and Here Gina, webmistress of the first UK Kane fansite Kane Rocks tells us about her Magic Moment when she got to meet Kane in Amsterdam and kindly shares her pictures of the special moment too!

Take a peek at Conny's amazing Kane Showcase pictures (the showcase took place in Amsterdam on April 29th and showcased Kane's talents to record industry people flown in from around the world as well as a few hundred lucky fans) here

COMING SOON A gallery of Kane pictures that Conny kindly submitted (they really are AWESOME as you can see from this page!) keep checking back!!

World of Rock would like to thank the following people whose help was invaluable in putting together this feature....

BMG UK, Gina of Kane Rocks, Conny for all the amazing photos, Astrid of Kane Abroad, Nadia of Kane France and Natasja of A Tribute To Kane. We'd also like to thank Connie of Kane Rules, Ellen of www.kane-el.nl and Simone of Kane 2002 for offering their help.
